Ian began his career by training with Bristow Burrell & Co, a Guildford and London-based firm of chartered accountants. He then moved to the City, where he spent 10 years working for international chartered surveyors Gooch & Wagstaff. In 1997, he was recruited as head of finance at RSHP.
As a member of the board he is the director responsible for the financial affairs of the practice and works closely with the directors on all the financial and tax aspects of RSHP projects. He was instrumental in developing the practice’s BAA framework agreement for Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport and was also part of the management team for the Spanish joint venture that delivered Barajas Airport in Madrid.
He is responsible for setting up, structuring and tax planning of the practice’s various overseas entities. Ian has overseen many financial and strategic changes within the office, including the setting up of offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Tokyo, Shanghai, Mexico City, New York and Sydney.
Ian supports and advises RSHP students on the financial elements of the RIBA Part III qualification.
