Simon Tonks – Associate Director

Simon has worked on a range of landmark projects both at inception, development, and construction phases in the UK and internationally. He is now leading the design and delivery of the 230m high Qianhai Financial Holdings Tower, a mixed-use commercial high-rise in the centre of the Qianhai district, Shenzhen, China

 

Simon has worked on a range of landmark projects both at inception, development, and construction phases in the UK and internationally. He is currently based in Taipei leading the delivery of Taoyuan Airport T3, a terminal that will provide a unique, dynamic, and fluid architecture that allows for easy adaption and future transformation of airport functions without compromising the passenger experience or the architectural integrity. 

Simon is also leading the design and delivery of the 230m high Qianhai Financial Holdings Tower, a mixed-use commercial high-rise in the centre of the Qianhai district, Shenzhen, China.

Prior to this, Simon was the design lead on the new Metro Tunnel Project in Melbourne, developing precision engineered interior finishes and bespoke components for the five new underground stations.

Simon was the project architect on the Transport for London (TfL) headquarters at Stratford Cross, (formerly the International Quarter London, IQL). He led the project, which focuses on health and well-being at work within a flexible and sustainable commercial space, from inception to completion. This project was delivered to BIM Level 2. He engaged extensively with the construction industry to develop and specify ground-breaking products, including a facade system and the multi-service chilled beam system called SKYBEAM which won a German Design Award.

Simon also played a lead role in the design of The Leadenhall Building in the City of London which has won numerous design awards. He led on designing and coordinating the complex structure and services of the building, including the complex services’ ‘attic’ and backbone of the building. He led key fit-out elements, distinctive fire control centre and the key details of the public space and galleria. The building was one of the fastest pieces of large-scale construction in the UK.

Simon has also worked with sustainable design, developing key strategies in-house. His interest and expertise in affordable and sustainable residential design have helped drive and deliver several housing schemes in the UK, including a Manser Medal winning project for housing.
