North Concourse at Taoyuan Terminal 3 opens

RSHP is delighted to reveal the newly opened North Concourse at Taoyuan International Airport, offering a first glimpse of the design ambition for Terminal 3. The concourse introduces eight spacious new gates and will accommodate an additional 5.8 million passengers annually.

The North Concourse expresses the vision for Terminal 3: a fluid, dynamic architecture designed for adaptability and future transformation, without compromising passenger experience or architectural integrity. Eight new gates, from D11 to D18, extend from D10 within Terminal 2. Generous aisle widths, clear sightlines, and varying volumes create a calm and legible passenger experience.

With the North Concourse now opening, the terminal is unfolding as a welcoming front door for arrivals and a memorable departure point, a space of clarity, light, and generosity that celebrates every journey.”

Currently the world’s 11th busiest airport, Taoyuan is set to expand by 1.5 times with Terminal 3. Delivered while the airport remains fully operational, the project will increase capacity to 45 million passengers a year, positioning Taoyuan as a major international hub in East Asia.

The next stage of Terminal 3 involves completing the elegant hard-shell roof – an undulating surface adorned with luminous pendants inspired by Taiwan’s cloud-capped mountains. In-situ lighting tests are exploring the system’s full potential to transform the spaces below.
