Dezeen Award win for The Richard Rogers' Drawing Gallery

14 November 2022

The Richard Rogers' Drawing Gallery wins the 2022 Dezeen Award for Best Small Building.

The only project winner located     in France, The Richard Rogers' Drawing Gallery is amongst 11   category winners that will now compete to be named the overall architecture project of the year winner, which will be revealed at the Dezeen Awards 2022 in London on 29 Nov.

Overall 5,400 entries from 90 countries were longlisted for the fifth edition of the awards programme, which celebrates the world's best architecture, interiors and design as well as studios and individuals producing the most outstanding work.

Judges comments:

"This project is magical in its simplicity of thought and the complexity of its execution. The design concept behind it is very clear and has been translated to near perfection in the built form, which required an extraordinary feat of engineering."

"These are the kinds of buildings that would have made you want to study architecture when you were young,"

Entries were first scored by a jury of 25 leading international architects before the winners were decided by a master jury.

Set in the Château La Coste vineyard, a 500-acre area of outstanding natural beauty and an internationally renowned destination for art and architecture, the Richard Rogers’ Drawing Gallery beautifully complements the pavilions, artworks, and landscape of the Art & Architecture Walk, bringing RSHP’s sensitivity, imagination and problem solving to the client brief.

The gallery is a pure cantilever, hovering weightless in space. It visually touches the ground lightly, belying the robust engineering below ground that supports the cantilever. Industrial in nature but with elegantly handcrafted details, the building is itself a unique and elegant sculpture in this landscape.
