China Resources Building (Shanghai) recognised as Best Tall Office Building in China

The China Resources Building (Shanghai) has been named Best Tall Office Building by the Council on Vertical Urbanism in the China Award of Excellence 2026.

The new regional programme of awards spotlights the most advanced achievements in tall building design, technology, and urban innovation in China.

Rising 186 metres in Jing'an district, the tower occupies a highly connected site at the intersection of three subway lines, close to Zhang Garden and Nanjing West Road. 

Located within a district known for its high-end office and retail development, the tower will form a unique, immediately recognisable landmark on the Shanghai skyline, establishing a strong urban presence that responds directly to the historic context. 

The tower engages with the existing Zhang Garden and open spaces at street level to create a harmonious transition between old and new. At basement level, the tower integrates directly with adjacent concourses, providing a continuous internal route from transit to retail and office spaces above. 

Biophilic elements, natural daylight, and solar shading improve environmental performance while resource efficiency and reduced operational impact are embedded in both design and construction. At the top of the tower, a landscaped roof garden provides panoramic views across the city.

The China Resources Building is set to complete later this year.

Overall category winners, along with one overall best building winner, will be selected and announced during the awards ceremony at the CVU 2026 China Conference, 24 & 25 June, in Guangzhou.
